Questions & answers

A cooperative is the most suitable form of governance for creating an effective economic mechanism to counter repression, allowing for an easy expansion of its membership base while keeping decision-making power and authority directly in the hands of the people.

The primary advantage of building this mechanism lies in its ability to unite the strength of ordinary people without requiring them to contribute substantial capital individually. Consequently, the efficiency of this unification stems mainly from their large numbers and a shared objective that brings them together, much like a swarm of bees possesses far greater strength than an individual bee.

Naturally, to successfully build an economic mechanism on such a scale, a grand cause is needed to unite enough people behind it. This is why the first mission of the "Zashtitnite" Cooperative naturally emerged as an opportunity to support and drive the overall economy around the businesses in the village of Neofit Rilski and the Historical Park area, effectively counteracting the repression and pressure exerted on this region and the local community. Through a sufficiently large union of thousands—and even tens of thousands—it becomes possible to successfully overcome this economic blockade while supporting and completing what the community has started and built.

Only after the successful realization of this initial mission will the "Zashtitnite" Cooperative possess the strength and capacity to carry its goal forward to other regions, supporting local economies and assisting persecuted businesses.

Over time, any individual or organization subject to institutional or media harassment could receive the necessary assistance and support through activation of these economic mechanisms designed to overcome such pressure. The larger the union grows, the faster and easier it will be to respond to similar situations.

The greatest advantage of this unification model is the ability of the co-op members themselves to decide how and where to extend assistance and support. The focus remains on seeking economically sound solutions that ultimately create value and generate solid financial results. In this way, the cooperative will expand its operations positively while generating economic benefits for its members.

Naturally, upon achieving positive financial results and corresponding profits—subject to a majority decision to distribute dividends—each co-op member would receive a proportionate share based on their actual equity stake. Similarly, the value of that equity stake can appreciate over time in accordance with the growth in value of the assets owned and managed by the cooperative.

To ensure effective management of this cooperative union model, a governance structure consisting of a Board of Directors and a Supervisory Board is utilized, alongside an elected Chairman representing the cooperative. The specific roles and duties of these elected members are clearly outlined in the cooperative's bylaws and governed by the active Co-operatives Act of Bulgaria.
